Jewish setelment is believed to have started in Italy as early as the Roman Republic, and continued to our days.

The earliest example of Jewish music from Italy dates to the 12th century, with Obadiah the Proselyte.

Today, the Jews of Italy number about 30,000. They practice five Jewish musical traditions: The Italian, Western Sephardic, Levantine, Ashkenazi, and Bene Roma.
